Forensic & Litigation Consulting

Risk & Investigations – Export Controls, Sanctions, & Trade

What We Do

FTI Consulting’s Export Controls, Sanctions & Trade Practice assists clients in evaluating compliance with global trade regulations by performing risk assessments, audits, and implementing proactive procedures to safeguard against fines and penalties. Our global team of experts provide technical guidance on product classification to determine export authority, evaluate the financial impact of tariffs, and consider implications of global sanctions programs. Our clients span the globe and are leaders in a variety of industries including telecom and technology, aerospace and defense, retail and consumer products, healthcare, automotive, and various industrial sectors.

What You Will Do

Interns and consultants will have an active role on our projects and will be expected to apply business, accounting, finance, and analytical skills to various client situations and practice disciplines. This work will vary from day-to-day based on the type and stage of each project with assignments including proactive development of compliance procedures, audit-based risk assessments, and preparing filings to various government agencies. You will assist our export controls and sanctions experts with evaluating the classification and jurisdiction of commodities in a variety of industries and perform due diligence on business partners for sanctions considerations. Finance and accounting skills are particularly useful when working alongside our customs and trade professionals who help clients assess the impact of tariffs and plan for supply chain disruptions.

What We Offer You

Our interns and consultants play an important role throughout each of our projects, collaborating with team members on project design, performing research and analysis, and preparing draft deliverables for client and government audiences. Our engagement teams are typically smaller in size and offer exposure to executive-level stakeholders in a variety of industry sectors so you will not be tied to any one project type. In short, you will have the opportunity to experience and work on a wide range of projects early in your career.

The Risk & Investigation Practice is one of the core practices within FTI’s Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment with teams located across the United States, including in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C.
