What We Do

FTI Consulting advises banks and other financial institutions through various stages of the business cycle and the constantly changing operating, competitive and regulatory environment. Our consultants work with clients to manage risk, enhance financial and operational performance, ensure compliance, resolve regulatory inquiries, address enforcement actions and litigation threats, and leverage assets to protect and enhance enterprise value.

Here is a sample of the types of services we offer.

Regulatory Compliance – We understand the regulatory perspective and work diligently to help clients avoid unwanted regulatory scrutiny or resolve identified compliance gaps efficiently and timely. We have extensive experience working with the FRB, OCC, CFPB, FDIC, state banking regulatory agencies and other government agencies.

Anti-Money Laundering – In addition to helping clients respond to regulatory examination and enforcement actions, we perform independent reviews and proactively help design compliance, governance and risk management programs.

Cryptocurrency – We assist on various aspects of blockchain protocols, cryptocurrencies, economics and valuation of digital tokens and cryptocurrency trading patterns.

Risk Management – We help clients improve their oversight of risk management activities and identify necessary actions to minimize the risk of negative regulatory exams, enforcement actions or other adverse implications.

Governance – We assist our clients by helping to ensure that their governance practices comply with regulatory expectations and industry standards, are appropriately documented and are consistently executed.

Example Projects

Customer Risk Rating Development for Crypto Fintech – A Crypto Fintech, which was subject to regulatory action, needed help properly addressing Customer Risk Ratings. FTI was brought in to perform a current state analysis of the Anti-Money Laundering Customer Risk Rating Tool (AML CRR Tool) and to enhance the AML CRR Tool.

End-to-End Risk Assessment for a Money Transfer Product – Driven by a regulatory finding, FTI was engaged to perform a full end to end risk assessment for a money transfer product, owned and operated by the New York branch of a large foreign bank. FTI’s team of subject matter experts reviewed a wide range of documentation, for the branch and the head office, including policies, procedures and the overall BSA/AML program to build up a deep understanding of the products and services offered as well as their client base.

CFPB Fair Lending Mock Exam – We evaluated the bank’s policies and procedures, conducted staff interviews to assess resource capability, analyzed the institution’s training program and reviewed senior management and board oversight of the compliance program against leading practices and regulatory expectation. We performed an in-depth analysis of file information for a targeted sample of applications to assess whether the bank’s lending policy criteria and requirements of the ECOA were appropriately applied.

Look-Back Review to a Bank’s Mortgage Origination Practices – FTI developed a comprehensive test plan and automated model to streamline the identification and quantification of potential borrower remediation. Leveraged existing loan data fields, understanding of loan calculation logic and discussions with Bank data teams to extract and further automate the loan level analysis. Performed analysis using a proprietary account review and workflow tool customized for bank requirements.
