Power, Renewables, and Energy Transition

What We Do

The Power, Renewables, and Energy Transition (PRET) team are experts in the electricity generation and infrastructure sectors, including utilities, conventional power generation and renewable energy from wind, solar, energy storage, hydrogen, and electric vehicles. FTI’s PRET practice focuses on addressing the many strategic, financial, and operational challenges faced by companies, boards, private equity sponsors, creditors, and other stakeholders in one of the fastest growing sectors within the global economy. Our team provides an expansive suite of services, including due diligence, M&A advisory, project management, market assessments, performance improvement, interim management and restructuring.

Example Projects

Transactions Services: served as strategic and sell-side advisor on the open market sale of a wind farm; undertook a targeted marketing effort, provided energy market forecasting, and led negotiations with investors to complete a successful transaction.
Interim Management: served as interim Treasurer and VP of Finance for a conventional power (natural gas) company; provided support during multiple public market project financings, including financial modeling and transaction structuring.
Business Transformation: retained by a private equity fund in support of a new renewable energy portfolio investment – a solar manufacturing platform experiencing exponential growth, but challenged by inefficient operational protocols; FTI created and implemented new processes and procedures for procurement, logistics, inventory control, and finance.
Restructuring: acted as Chief Restructuring Officer for a global solar developer and operator which was facing a liquidity shortfall and required bridge financing from equity sponsors; FTI oversaw the successful sale of several profitable divisions and led an operational restructuring to rationalize platform costs and preserve value for debt and equity holders.
